Image upload guidelines

To ensure your personalized book looks its best, it is important to choose the right author image.  Your author image will appear on the cover and on the About The Author page.  Choosing the right high-quality image will ensure that you generate a beautiful, professional-looking, and hilarious final product.

1. Image selection 

  • Think funny: Think about whether you want your author to be smiling, frowning, serious, or silly.  Do they look professional, embarrassed, confident, or mysterious?  Different poses will evoke different vibes depending on the title... choose carefully!

2. Image Composition

  • Portraits: A head-and-shoulders portrait typically works best for most covers. Full-body images can be used but may appear smaller on the cover.
  • Cropping and backgrounds: We do not crop backgrounds and we do not overlay your face onto other images. Your photo is used as-is and stretched to fit the allotted area.  So consider how your image will look alongside each book's cover colors and title.  Simple, uncluttered backgrounds are ideal. Busy or complex backgrounds may distract from the subject.
  • Centered subject: The subject (the author) should be centered in the image with some spacing around the edges to avoid appearing too zoomed-in.

2. Image Format, Dimensions, & Quality

  • Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, BMP
  • Unsupported formats: TIFF, GIF, RAW, or any other non-standard formats
  • Recommended size: At least 1600 x 1000 pixels (portrait orientation recommended for most books)
  • Minimum size: 800 x 500 pixels
  • Aspect ratios don't need to be exact, and vary from book to book, so just do your best to match your image with the shape you see on the product page.
  • Resolution: 300 DPI or higher recommended) for the best printing results.
  • Focus: Ensure the image is sharp and in focus. Avoid blurry or pixelated images.
  • Lighting: Choose an image with good lighting that complements the other colors on the book's cover. Natural light or well-lit indoor images work best.

3. Image Content

  • Copyright-free: Make sure you have the right to use the image. Do not upload images that are copyrighted unless you own the rights.
  • No minors.
  • No content that violates applicable laws or the platform's policies, including but not limited to explicit, inappropriate, or unauthorized material.
